Landford Parish Council.

Currently, Landford Parish Council consists of seven councillors all of whom were elected in the local government elections held in May 2007. Each term of office is four years.

Councillors receive no financial reward as the law forbids it, so everything that we do is done because we want to try and make a difference to the local community by influencing decisions that affect our Parish.

The Council is an elected tier of local government and, as such, has been granted certain powers by Government. These include the authority to raise money through taxation (known as the precept), as well as a range of powers to spend public money. Most likely areas are: The Councillors are there to take decisions, make recommendations and requests on behalf of the Parish, which we consider will best serve the community and improve the quality of life and the local environment.

This may mean taking direct action, or where we have no legal right to act, trying to influence other decision makers. We are required to represent the interests of the whole community – often, this can be difficult as different groups have different views – the Council then has to try to assess the best course of action to take, as well as ensuring that any difficult decisions are made in an open and reasoned way (if not, we stand to lose our seats at the next election).

Landford Parish Council holds full Parish Council meetings bi-monthly, at the Village Hall. These usually take place on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm. In between full Council meetings, the Planning Committee will meet to consider any planning applications that have been received, as the time for responding to the applications is quite short. Click here for more details on Planning or here to view the next agenda.

All of our full Council meetings and Planning Committee meetings are open to the Public and are notified on the website and on the Parish notice board (by the Post Office) at least three days before the meeting takes place.

If an item is not listed on an agenda, we are not allowed to pass any resolution in relation to it Although the matter may be discussed, we cannot take any decisions unless it is listed on an agenda - this ensures that any interested parties have the opportunity to attend the meeting and give their views.

If you have something to say about the parish, or feel there is something that the Council should be made aware of, either come along to the next meeting, or contact a Councillor or the Clerk to the Council. If we aren’t the correct authority to deal with your query, we will happily point you in the right direction, and represent you if appropriate. The Parish Plan

Initiated by the Parish Council but run by an independent steering committee of parishioners, the Parish Plan is currently being designed. Its aim is to clearly set out the views and requirements identified by the widest possible cross-section of people living in and benefiting from Landford’s amenities.
